Great game. Have hd a few blocks which were solved by "cheats" Now I am stuck in Russia/China. Hit log with axe, but ppotholder didn't sho up. Can anyone help me? The computer made a noise, but nothing happened.

There are a lot of hangups in the game, but with some walkthroughs, I have gotten to Russia. My problem is with getting the potholder. I hit the log with the axe, but the potholder didn't show up in my inventory. The computer made a lot of noise, but nothing happened. Has anybody else had this problem? Can anyone help me?
