Logler.com Casual Games Awards

Year 2006 ended 3 month ago and we had a lot of well respected awards in casual games industry in the end of 2006 – beginning 2007. Just to name most noticable of them:

We thought it would be unfair to leave casual games space without one more award. So, we want to introduce you our own long named Logler.com First Casual Game Awards, based on the Global Top 10 results for the first 52 weeks. Every week starting from end of march 2006 we publish Casual Games Global Top 10 on Logler.com (more info about CGG Top 10 can be found here). Our weekly Top 10 is based on sales/popularity data from 16 major casual portals and shows what is hot in casual games space.

Let’s start right now from the Casual Games Global Top 10. Year 1. Here is how we made it: we took all the games entered CGG Top 10 last 52 weeks and assigned them points for each position on each week, 10pts for the first place, 9 for the second and so on… 1pt for the 10th place.

Based on Casual Games Global Top.Year 1 data we prepared some cool nominations, here they are:

Best Casual Game Of The Year

Cake Mania Best Casual Game Cake Mania by Sandlot Games – 6 weeks in the first place, 43 weeks in the Top, millions of copies downloaded all of the world, and millions of fans all over the globe, this game deserved the right to be crowned as the Best Casual Game of the Year!

Most Successful Franchise

Mystery Case Files by Big Fish Games.

Mystery Case Files – three titles in one year! Impressive results! Huntsville, Prime Suspects and Ravenhearst brought the fame for the hidden object genre and helped a lot of people all around the world to kill their spare time =) Great Franchise! As runner-up we can see only Diner Dash series but they are far from MCF. Let’s look what the 2007 will bring.

Most Successful Developer/Publisher:

1st – Big Fish Games - 7 titles entered Top 10 during the year;
2nd – Playfirst, Sandlot Games,  PopCap Games,  MumboJumbo, Oberon Games, IWin - 4 titles entered Top 10 during the year;
3rd – LDW Software – 3 titles entered Top 10 during the year.

The first place is really expected - BFG are standing behind of most successful franchise MCF and huge single games as Travelogue:360 Paris, Hidden Expedition: Titanic and Mystic Inn. At the second position we have a lot of companies with 4 games in Top 10, really big names here: Playfirst, Sandlot Games,  PopCap Games,  MumboJumbo, Oberon Games, IWin. At the third we have very promising team: LDW Software with 3 games, their franchise Virual Villagers is a brave decision and uncommon game for the market which became a real hit among players.

Most Popular Genres:

We decided to sum up most popular games by two criterias: by number of games entered Top 10 to reflect the size of genre and by points games of this genre earned in our Top to reflect overall quality and popularity of the genre (if more than 1 game entered Top 10)

1) by number of games entered Top 10 in the last year:

1 - match3
2 - time management
3 - hidden object and card& board
4 - sim/strategy
5 - shoot3 (aka marble popper)
6 - adventure
7 - object inlay (aka brain teaser) and word

Match3 continues to be the largest genre here, on the second we have Diner Dash style genre, hidden object and card&board are also in Top 3, but let’s look to the more correct rating:

2) by points earned:

1 - hidden object - 924
2 - time management - 770
3 - sim/strategy - 488
4 - match3 - 255
5 - adventure - 94
6 - shoot3 - 92
7 - card&board - 87
8 - object inlay - 19
9 - word - 6

Here we can see the real reflection of the last year:  Hidden Object and Time Management games are ruling player’s minds and will continue doing it in the future. Sim/strategy games like Villagers or Fish Tycoon are hot right now too. Despite of the biggest size, match3 genre isn’t so popular as hidden object and time management and even was forced out by less casual sim games.

Based on our Concluding Top's data we can name best games by genres, so fasten your sit belts, fanfare, drum rolls, we begin:
